Mom, baby killed in Pierson crash identified

FHP investigates fatal crash

PIERSON, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol has identified the woman and baby killed in a crash in Volusia County on Thursday.

The crash occurred just before noon at State Road 40 at County Road 3 in Pierson.

Troopers said Victoria Potter, 21, and her 10-week-old son Terry Peterson, both of Astor, were killed in the crash.

Potter was driving eastbound on SR 40 when the truck, which was driving westbound on SR 40, came into the eastbound lanes and collided with Potter's Ford Explorer.

The driver of the truck was taken to Halifax Hospital with serious injuries.

Relatives told Local 6 Potter was a stay-at-home mom. Members of the Astor Zumba club prated for the family of potter hours after Potter and her son's death.

State Road 40 was shut down in both directions as the investigation continued. Local 6 news helicopter Sky 6 flew over the scene as tow trucks arrived to take the vehicles away.

No charges have been filed as of Thursday evening. FHP said it is still investigating the crash.

A fundraiser will be held on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Parramore's Fantastic Fish Camp and Family Resort in Astor, where Potter had started working recently.

All proceeds from tips and retail sales will go to the family.

No funeral arrangements have been released.
