Gaard Swanson, a native of San Francisco, has extensive on-air experience stretching deep inside the television and Internet industry. He not only brings you the night’s top news stories, but he listens to you, wanting to know your stories, experiences, and concerns. Gaard is committed to making this community better for you and your family by uncovering news that matters each and every night.
Gaard started his TV career in Medford, Ore., where he got his first taste of the fast-paced news world. Since then, his news career has taken him throughout much of the Northwest, including, Boise, Portland, Seattle and Los Angeles.
Most recently, Gaard worked at the CBS affiliate in Seattle, where he was a part of the anchoring team at KIRO-7 when it won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for best newscast in the United States. His delivery and dynamic personality, on and off the air, without a doubt contributed to the station’s success.
Despite a challenging schedule at KIRO-7, Gaard’s hosted several shows, including the PGA’s Golf Almanac and the popular series, “Generation Renovation” on the national network, Home and Garden Television. In addition to “Generation Renovation,” he has hosted numerous specials for HGTV, including “Gotta Have It” in Orlando.
Gaard has always had a connection to Florida, from showcasing homes in Miami and Fort Lauderdale to covering major sporting events in Tampa Bay and Jacksonville. He’s happy to finally call sunny Central Florida home.
Gaard’s passions aren’t just in front of the camera, Swanson owns a successful production company called OnGaard Productions and is the founder of MyTribeTv.com. MyTribeTv is an Internet-based network that helps Native Americans share their news, celebrations, and Powwows through live streaming and on-demand applications inside Indian Country. His diverse talents and entrepreneurial drive make him a true asset here at Local 6.
Gaard graduated from San Diego State University. He is an avid golfer and enjoys real estate, basketball and spending time with his wife and four children.
