PINE HILLS, Fla. -

Troopers are working to identify a man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. Friday on Colonial Drive near Powers Drive in Pine Hills.

The victim, described only as a "older" white man, was struck while crossing Colonial Drive, according to troopers, who didn't say if the man was in a crosswalk.

Witnesses who heard the crash said they only saw a silver or gray four-door sedan car slow down and drive off.

The witnesses said they later heard screams and discovered the man on the ground, according to troopers.  The victim was treated at the scene and taken to Health Central Hospital, where he later died.

An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against the driver.

Anyone with any information about the crash is urged to call the FHP at 407-737-2213.
