Big rigs crash in Groveland

Lanes of U.S. Highway 27 closed near Independence Boulevard

GROVELAND, Fla. – Two semitrailers, one of which was carrying cattle, crashed Wednesday afternoon in Groveland, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

One lane of U.S. Highway 27 in each direction is closed because of the wreck, which occurred near Independence Boulevard, according to troopers.

The FHP said both trucks were headed north when one of the drivers attempted to make a U-turn.  The semi hauling cattle then rear-ended the truck, troopers said.

The driver of the cattle truck was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to the FHP, but the driver's condition was not known.

No other details, including whether any cattle were injured, were immediately known.

Traffic is slow in the area.
