Winston-Salem, NC -- Chris Paul scored 14 points and handed out 11 assists to lead sixth-ranked Wake Forest to an 85-67 win over Elon at Lawrence Joel Coliseum. Kyle Visser netted 13 points for the Demon Deacons (8-1), who have won three straight since dropping an 18-point decision at Illinois. Chris Ellis and Eric Williams each chipped in 10 points in the win. "Rather than talk about what we didn't do, Elon deserves credit," Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser said. "I thought the Elon kids played really, really played hard. I thought they took it to us the whole game." Chris Chalko scored a game-high 16 points and Scottie Rice added 15 for the Phoenix (2-7), who have lost seven of their last eight contests. Wake Forest snapped a tie with a 5-0 run midway through the first half. Williams' three-point play with 8:23 left in the stanza capped the quick surge and made it 22-17. The margin grew to 27-21 moments later, but the Phoenix then used a 6-0 burst, keyed by threes from Rice and Steven Harvin, to tie the contest at 27-27 with just over five minutes left in the half. The Demon Deacons then scored six straight points and eventually took a 42-37 lead into the locker room. Elon grabbed a 47-46 lead on two free throws by Rice early in the second half, but the Demon Deacons scored five consecutive points, highlighted by Justin Gray's three-pointer, to regain the upperhand. A pair of free throws by Visser with 10:47 remaining gave Wake some breathing room and opened up a 57-49 margin. The Phoenix then slowly began to wear down and fell behind by 10 points moments later. The Demon Deacons led by eight with 7:10 left in the game and then finally asserted their dominance as they used a game-clinching 11-2 spurt to forge ahead by 17 points.
