LONGWOOD, Fla. – The Women’s and Girls’ Cancer Alliance is the only organization in Central Florida that promotes, and advocates for, good gynecological health for both women and girls.
The organization started in 1997 and was known as the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida, but changed its name recently and expanded its mission.

A statistic that most do not know is that one third of all women and girls diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer will die. The group pushes education of personal health more than focusing on the top-half of their bodies.
Not only does the organization educate women and girls, they educate healthcare providers, about subtle symptoms and unspoken truths not readily found anywhere else.
News 6 teams up with the Women’s and Girls’ Cancer Alliance for their annual Mother’s Day 5K held at the Oviedo Mall. News 6 chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells hosts the event which begins with check-in at 6:30 a.m. with the official start of the race one hour later.
