LONGWOOD, Fla. -

A Department of Corrections inmate working along a Seminole County roadway was struck by a car in a hit-and-run, and deputies said they later found the driver hiding in an attic.

The Sheriff's Office and Longwood police conducted a traffic stop around 9 a.m. near Oak Street and Magnolia, but the driver took off and struck the inmate near U.S. Highway 17-92 and Raven Avenue in Longwood.

A search for the driver led officials to Sanford, and the driver was found in the attic of a home on Cypress Street and taken into custody, police said.

The inmate was taken to a hospital with an arm and back injury, officials said.

No other details have been released.
