Pet food maker Party Animal recalled two types of the company’s Cocolicious dog food last week after a customer found pentobarbital in the food through a lab test.
Pentobarbital is in the barbiturates drug family and can slow the brain and nervous system. The drug is often used to treat insomnia or seizures.

The company said the customer tested the food after the customer's pet “experienced discomfort.”
Party Animal asked all retailers to return any remaining containers of this food so that the company can have them independently tested.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we are retrieving the remainder of these two lots nationwide,” Party Animal said in a news release.
The voluntary recall includes Cocolicious Beef & Turkey dog food from lot #0136E15204 04, with a best by date of July 2019 and 13-ounce cans Cocolicious Chicken & Beef dog food from lot #0134E15 237 13 with a best by date of August 2019.
Party Animal said it submitted many recent samples of the beef flavors for testing and all tested negative for any pentobarbital.
