ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Fashion Square Mall is destined for some changes.
The landmark on East Colonial Drive has been sold to UP Development out of Franklin, Tennessee.
Kyle Geld works at the mall. He told Local 6 he's heard nothing but rumors so far, but hopes it stays intact.
"If they tear it down or make something else out of it, that's a problem because that leaves me without a job," says Geld
According to the Orlando Business Journal, Schmid Construction out of Clermont was chosen as general contractor for redevelopment, to the tune of at least $25 million.
Tania Pulver lives nearby and said she loves the mall as-is, but wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade.
"I would love to see Saks or a Nordstrom's. That would be very nice," says Pulver.
It's unclear what the specific plans for redevelopment are. Pulver said she hopes more high rises aren't in store.
"I think we have enough condos with the Baldwin Park and all those new apartments. I think there's enough of that around here. Its going to be like Miami. That's why I left Miami to come to Orlando," said Pulver.
Developers also may build apartments on some vacant parts of the property. UP Development already owns a vacant Toys-R-Us lot nearby.
