Topless Teachers Pose For Calendar

Calendars Cost $15; Group Hopes To Raise $10K

Some Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High male teachers bared their chests for a beefcake calendar in an effort to fight cancer.

Math teacher Patrick Kile, also known as "Mr. August," created the calendar, which includes a shirtless basketball coach, a burly ROTC instructor and even Principal Tim Cool in tight jeans and a black T-shirt pictured next to his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The cost of the muscle-bound treasure -- which runs from April 2009 to March 2010 -- is $15. For $20, you can purchase an autographed copy, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

"It's not that expensive," Kile said. "It's about $1 per man, or 50 cents per bare chest."

Kile, 33, is a cancer survivor. He had carcinoma in 2005 that began in his lymph nodes and spread to his neck. Two of the men in the calendar also have wives who are breast cancer survivors.

Kile acknowledged that some people might think that the calendar is inappropriate, but he hopes they will realize that it's harmless fun and directed toward a good cause.

"About 95 percent of people are in support of it," he said. "Some have straight out laughed, some swooned or got a good chuckle out of it. It's had all sorts of different reactions."

Kile said some students have purchased the calendars, but many "don't want to look at their goofy teachers."

"A lot of the moms like the calendar," he added.

Brevard Public Schools officials approved the fundraiser.

Cool, the principal, said he was easily persuaded to pose because the calendar supports a worthy cause. A year ago, his mother died of cancer, so the picture also was a tribute to her, he said.

"I did this not only to support my teacher but for those personal reasons," Cool said.

So far, the effort has raised about $1,500. The goal is $10,000.
