ORLANDO, Fla. -- A "minor" explosion involving a paint can occurred Friday afternoon near an Orange County elementary school, but there were no reports of damages or injuries, deputies said.
No other details were released about the explosion, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m. near Bay Meadows Elementary School, located at 9150 S. Apopka-Vineland Road.
"A teacher saw an explosion that did not involve fire, but it involved a fair amount of debris and sand and was blown several feet into the air. I'm personally taking a look into where that explosion took place to determine what occurred," Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said.
The school was placed on lockdown and all students, employees and visitors were moved to Southwest Middle School on Dr. Phillips Boulevard.
Demings said no explosives were found during a search of the school.
"We have to take this seriously. There were a number of children at play on the playground when the explosion took place," Demings said.
