Final vote to be held on Volusia school uniforms

Vote could require uniforms for students in 2016-17 year

DeLAND, Fla. – The Volusia County school board will soon decide if students will wear uniforms to school starting next year.

If approved, students would be required to wear a Polo-style or button-down shirt and either navy, black or khaki pants, shorts, skirt or jumper.

Last month, the school board voted to move forward with the change.

Supporters of uniforms say it creates a safer environment on campus by allowing faculty to easily recognize non-students.

The final vote is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the DeLand Administrative Complex.
