UCF gets $1 million gift for downtown campus

School expected to open by fall 2018

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida got another big boost in its quest to bring thousands of students to downtown Orlando.

BB&T Bank gave the university a $1 million gift for the school's new downtown campus.

It is the first major gift since Gov. Rick Scott approved $20 million in state funding for the campus, leaving officials with $3 million left to raise.

The campus, scheduled to open in fall 2018, is expected to welcome nearly 8,000 students when it is complete.

The campus will be located at the site of the old Amway Arena.
