Open enrollment for Lake County schools ends Tuesday

Other counties still accepting applications

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Students hoping to transfer to a Lake County school out of their assigned zone have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to apply, according to school board officials.

A bill passed in the Florida Legislature last year changed the policy to give parents and students more opportunity to select the school they attend, even across district and county lines.

Only schools that are under-enrolled are accepting applications and parents are responsible for providing their own transportation through the Educational Choice program.

Open enrollment in Lake County began on Feb. 1 and in that timeframe nearly 600 applications have been submitted.

Sherri Owens, with Lake County Schools, told News 6 when open enrollment began that the district would likely have more applications than openings, creating a lottery process.

Those interested in applying for the Educational Choice program can submit an application here.

Enrollment is still open in Orange, Volusia and several other Central Florida counties. Find more information about those open enrollment processes below.
