OCOEE, Fla. – Five students were taken to the hospital Friday after a crash involving an Orange County school bus and a vehicle, officials said.
The crash was reported at 8:35 a.m. on Blackwood Avenue and Old Winter Garden Road in Ocoee as the bus was headed to Thornbrook Elementary School.
The bus was carrying 64 students, Orange County Public Schools said.
"'Is my child okay? Whose fault was it?' Those are my first thoughts," LaShawn Triplett, a mother of one of the students on board the bus said.
Orange County Fire Rescue officials said 20 patients were assessed at the scene and five students were taken to the hospital.
A parent told News 6 she thinks the driver of the vehicle involved in the bus crash was distracted by their cell phone.
"The (driver) is distracted with a phone...not looking at the right or the left," Lorenzo Manerio, a first grader who was on the bus said as he translated for his mother.
The bus was later towed from the scene.
Ocoee police tweeted that all the students live in the Advenir at the Oaks Apartments.
Police said they weren't aware of any distracted driving issues, but that the crash is still under investigation.
Investigators said they won't determine if any citations or charges should be filed until they complete their investigation.
