If you have any lingering confusion regarding Cynthia Nixon's recent remarks on sexuality and choice, hopefully her latest statement will help clear it up.
The 45-year-old actress, who is set to marry partner Christine Marinoni, has clarified in The Advocate that while she chooses to be in a gay relationship, her bisexuality is not a choice.
It's something that could've been misconstrued, seeing that earlier this month Nixon was quoted as telling the New York Times that she's chosen to be gay.
"I understand that for many people it's not, but for me it's a choice, and you don't get to define my gayness for me," she said at the time.
In a separate interview with the Daily Beast, during her press run this month for her role in the Broadway revival of "Wit," Nixon elaborated that she's bisexual, although she prefers not to use that word.
Now, Nixon explains to the Advocate, likely once and for all, that her remarks to the NYT "were about me and my personal story of being gay."
She continues, "I believe we all have different ways we came to the gay community and we can't and shouldn't be pigeon-holed into one cultural narrative which can be uninclusive and disempowering. However, to the extent that anyone wishes to interpret my words in a strictly legal context I would like to clarify: While I don't often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have 'chosen' is to be in a gay relationship."
Nixon, who welcomed a son with her partner last February, also has two children from her prior relationship to photographer Danny Mozes.
She told the Daily Beast of her relationship history, "I do feel that when I was in relationships with men, I was in love and lust with those men. And then I met Christine and I fell in love and lust with her. I am completely the same person and I was not walking around in any sort of fog. I just responded to the people in front of me the way I truly felt."
