'Pretty in Pink' returns to movie theaters for Valentine's Day

2 screenings set for select theaters in South Florida; encore set for Feb. 17

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Just in time for Valentine's Day, "Pretty in Pink" is returning to the big screen to celebrate the film's 30th anniversary.

The high school love story was first released in 1986, but a whole new generation of young lovers will get a chance to experience it when Fathom Events brings it back to the silver screen.

Molly Ringwold and Andrew McCarthy star as high school students who overcome different social and economic backgrounds to find love despite the obstacles they face.

Jon Cryer co-stars as Ringwold's lovelorn friend, Duckie, while James Spader plays McCarthy's privileged friend, who is rebuked by Ringwold and tries to sway McCarthy's infatuation with her.

The John Hughes-penned romantic comedy is named after The Psychedelic Furs song, "Pretty in Pink," which was re-recorded for the soundtrack. Another notable song to appear in the movie is "If You Leave" by Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. The song remains a radio favorite to this day.

"Pretty in Pink" will be shown in select theaters Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. An encore screening is scheduled for the same times Feb. 17.

A full list of theaters showing the movie can be found on the Fathom Events website.
