Taming the Colorado
Just outside Boulder City, Nevada, (a town created for the construction workers), lies one of mankind's greatest creation, Hoover Dam. Created to help with flood control, water storage, hydroelectric power, and recreation, over one million people visit the dam each year. Once the main road connecting Nevada and Arizona with the roadway traveling over the top of the dam, a "bypass" highway and bridge were constructed after the attacks on September 11, 2001. Originally called, "Boulder Dam", it took almost six years to create "Lake Mead" after its completion. Today we take a tour of the historic dam and the surrounding area.
