Vanilla Ice makes appearance in Brevard County

'Ice Ice Baby' singer films segment at Blinds of All Kinds

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – James Navrotsky walked into Blinds of All Kinds chatting on his cellphone, then noticed that Vanilla Ice was filming in the next room.

" Let me call you back in a second, " Navrotsky said before hanging up.

The rap star, famous for "Ice Ice Baby, " later shook Navrotsky's hand and posed for photos.

"I've been watching this dude since the '90s," said Navrotsky, 34, of Merritt Island. "I walked in, and Vanilla Ice was 10 feet from me."

According to News 6 partner Florida Today, Vanilla Ice, aka Rob Van Winkle, filmed a segment at Blinds Of All Kinds on Wednesday for an episode of "The Vanilla Ice Project" on DIY Network featuring a Melbourne Beach home.

"He's a very humble person," said Sonja Polster, director of operations at Blinds Of All Kinds.

The reality TV home-improvement show is currently in its seventh season with new episodes to air in July.

This isn't the first time that Vanilla Ice has filmed in Brevard.

He helped build a therapeutic pool for the Johnson family in Palm Bay in 2015. He called Owen Johnson, who is paralyzed from the neck down, his "little ninja," an homage to his appearance in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" films in the 1990s.

Vanilla, his DIY co-star Wes Kain and several crews have been working on the Melbourne Beach property for the last few months.

"This is probably our biggest project yet," he said. "This is a complete rebuild. It's been an undertaking, and I'm shocked that we actually have done it in six months. It's incredible."

The beachside property has a huge lot and a helicopter pad. The home features a modern Polynesian design and a coastal theme with different shades of blue. Vanilla Ice described one part of the house as "really bright, so there's a lot of marble." Coincidentally, one of the colors he chose is called "glazed vanilla."
