ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two children of a U.S. Army sergeant serving overseas were surprised by his appearance in their school classroom on Wednesday.
Sgt. Pablo Otero has been in Iraq for a year and told his children he would return to Orlando on Saturday, but he decided to surprise them a few days early.
His children, Luis Otero, 11, and Christine Otero, 10, attend Meadow Woods Elementary School.
Luis was left unable to speak for minutes after his dad walked into his classroom. He said it has been "really tough" for him to be without his dad for so long.
Christine entered the classroom shortly after, and she was also overcome with emotion after not seeing her father for a year.
The two kids will be able to spend a month with their dad before he heads back to Iraq. Otero said he will be chaperoning a field trip for his daughter's class on Thursday, and the family is planning to make trips to some local theme parks.
"Oh God, I missed this feeling for a whole year. I dreamed about this for the past 365 days," Otero said.
The emotional scene led some students and teachers to tears.
