PHOENIX -- A central Phoenix neighborhood is under attack by peacocks.
Neighbors said the big birds have wreaked havoc on the neighborhood. They said they're out of ideas to combat the birds; which damage property by day and shriek all night.
"Every morning before dawn they're crying," neighbor Paul Tibbles told TV station KPHO.
At least seven have been spotted in the neighborhood.
Neighbors said what began as amusing when the feathered friends first appeared in the neighborhood turned into a major nuisance.
"Outside of the fact that they're beautiful and it's nice to see them once in a while, they're always around, they're always dropping on the ground, on the patio," said Tibbles.
The peacocks have made quite a mess, beyond their waste.
"They actually went into one lady's doggy door once, and she came home and her house was a wreck and there was a peacock in it," said one neighbor who did not want to be identified.
Neighbors said a homeowner brought the peacocks into the area several years ago, but now won't claim them, and the birds just continue to multiply.
"To me, it's just kind of another example of people that live in an urban area that have pets that really shouldn't," said the unidentified neighbor.
Neighbors said they called the City of Phoenix and Arizona Game and Fish for help, but have not gotten any responses.
