KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A Kissimmee city commissioner has hired an attorney after being accused of finding a neighbor's runaway puppy and giving it away.
Commissioner Cheryl Grieb hired an attorney after Pietro Sciuto reported to police that she took his family's 6-month-old Maltese named Lucky and gave the puppy to a city employee the same day.
Sciuto said Lucky escaped from his back yard two weeks ago, and his children searched for the puppy throughout the neighborhood.
Grieb, who would only talk to Local 6 News about the incident off-camera, said she found the puppy near Sciuto's home and left a business card with a neighbor.
Grieb said the dog did not have a tag, and she gave the animal to Bob Wright, who works for the city of Kissimmee.
Sciuto said if Grieb had any intention of returning the the lost dog, she could have put up fliers in the neighborhood or taken the puppy to animal services. Grieb said she would rather put the dog in a home rather than animal services.
Sciuto said he wants his dog back, but Grieb said she does not know where Lucky is and the situation is out of her control.
The Kissimmee Police Department is investigating the incident.
