Protest Stops Sales Of 'Boys Are Stupid' Clothing
Radio Host Says Slogan Promotes Anti-Male Violence
Three retail chains have dropped the merchandise, which features an array of girls' clothes and accessories, after a protest led by a fathers' rights activist who hosts a weekly radio show.
Glenn Sacks says he doesn't get the humor in the "Boys Are Stupid" line, and neither does his 11-year-old son. He says the items promote anti-male violence.
Todd Goldman is chief designer of the line for the David and Goliath T-shirt company, which makes and sells the items. He said he has a "very quirky, sarcastic sense of humor" and that if people don't like the cartoons, they don't have to buy the merchandise.
But Tilly's stores in Southern California are among those pulling the items. Senior vice president Sam Mendelsohn said he wasn't aware it was a problem until now and agrees with people who find the items offensive.
Universal Studios has also pulled the line from its stores. Distributed by Internet Broadcasting Systems, Inc. The Associated Press contributed to this report. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
