Toys And Games For Traveling Kids

POSTED: Wednesday, July 6, 2005

Looking for new ways to keep your young travelers entertained on this summer's vacation? The Good Housekeeping Institute has found several child-safe products sure to keep little hands and minds busy.

For budding artists there's Crayola's Activity Tote ($21; 800-272-9652; www.crayola.com). It includes a Color Wonder activity book and eight Color Wonder markers that work only on the book's specially coated paper. No need to worry about ink-stained car seats or clothing.

Keep kids occupied with the portable I Spy Memory Game ($9.99; 800-246-2986; www.scholastic.com/ispy). Play by matching 12 identical items from a collection of picture cards. Even if the cards get wet, GH Institute tests found that the ink on them won't bleed.

If your kids prefer moving pictures, try the Playskool Handheld Video Now Jr. Personal Video Player ($75; 800-752-9755; www.hasbro.com/playskool). The program discs are sturdy enough to stand up to sticky fingers and rough handling. The product performed well in GH Institute tests that evaluated sound quality, picture quality and skip resistance. Another product plus for moms and dads: earphones.
