Survey: No gifts for the mailman, parents

Online shoppers admit who they forget to buy presents for

A consumer survey shows the mail carrier is the person shoppers are "most likely to forget to buy a gift for " during the holiday season, followed by neighbors and parents.

The survey conducted for CashStar, a digital gifting and incentives company, found that nearly 56 million " adult online Americans" forget their mail carriers and nearly 44 million are "likely to forget to buy a gift for their neighbors."

One of the surprises on the "forgotten list" is parents. 8-million shoppers admitted forgetting to get a gift for mom and dad.

The survey was conducted online nationwide by Harris Interactive from November 6-8, 2012. Other people most often forgotten include teachers and babysitters.
The survey also found that " a quarter of online Americans only remember to buy a gift in the days leading up to an event, with nearly 10 million* remembering on the day of the occasion."

"These results reflect how hectic our schedules are, especially during the holidays. Despite our best intentions, we forget important people," said David Stone, co-founder and CEO of CashStar.

The survey also found that men were twice as likely to forget a gift until the day of an event compared to women.

As for shoppers in the South, we remembered to shop a month in advance, but forgot the babysitter more than other regions of the U.S.

Christmas Day falls on a Tuesday this year so last minute shoppers will have a weekend and a Monday to get those last minute gifts.
