The Florida Highway Patrol is blaming a sleepy driver for an early morning crash that briefly blocked parts of Interstate-95 and almost ruining Mother’s Day for many.
Troopers said a Toyota Camry was heading north on Interstate 95 near Viera and Rockledge when the driver fell asleep and veered into the median guardrail. The car then bounced off the guardrail and came to a rest in the northbound center lane of I-95 facing south with its headlights flickering.
A tractor trailer was traveling northbound I-95 in the center lane and told troopers he did not see the disabled car until the last second. The tractor trailer hit the Camry and overturned onto the right shoulder.
Brevard County Fire Rescue said the tractor trailer was carrying flowers for Mother’s Day, but none of the contents spilled out of the trailer.
A third vehicle was also hit in the crash.
No one was seriously injured in the crash.
Troopers said the trailer had to be unloaded before it could be brought upright.
The driver of the Toyota Camry was ticketed for careless driving.
