Men May Have PMS, Too

They Can Tell Cycle By Dreams

POSTED: 3:50 p.m. EST November 14, 2001

A neuroscience expert said women go on monthly emotional roller coasters, but so do men.

David A. Goodman, a San Diego-based neuroscience expert, said that men go through their own version of premenstrual syndrome. Women's cycles are 28 days while a man's cycle could last as short as 30 hours or as long as 34 days.

PMS is a disorder characterized by a set of hormonal changes that trigger disruptive symptoms.

There are four emotional stages involved:

  • A happy, but passive stage
  • Everything goes right
  • Depressed
  • Depressed and angry

Goodman said that men can determine what stage they are in by looking at the content of their dreams.
