The
Aetna medical insurance company and Florida Hospital have severed ties over a billing dispute, possibly forcing thousands of Central Florida residents to find a new primary care doctor, according to a Local 6 News report.
As of last week, Florida Hospital is turning away all Aetna HMO and POS-covered patients. And, beginning Nov. 20, the hospital will no longer accept Aetna PPOs, according to the report.
The move means Aetna HMO members in Orlando and other Central Florida cities will no longer be able to use any Florida Hospital facilities, unless they already have Aetna authorization.
PPO members still can use Florida Hospital facilities as part of their out-of-network benefit, according to an official.
Florida hospital also said it will
continue taking patients who
need ongoing treatment, like
chemotherapy or dialysis and
emergency patients.
Several Aetna customers told Local 6 News they were upset with the development.
"Bottom line is, it's really
not my problem," Aetna-covered resident Amanda Healy said. "I'm paying high
prices for this insurance. We
just expect to be covered for
our medical needs."
Aetna members with questions about medical treatment should call the Aetna customer service number on their card.
There are 320,000 Aetna customers in Central Florida.
