Lipoplasty, more commonly called liposuction, allows plastic surgeons to remove excess fat deposits to improve a patient’s shape, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Liposuction is most commonly performed on the following areas, according to ASPS:

  • Abdomen and waist
  • Thighs, hips and buttocks
  • Arms, neck and back
  • Inner knee
  • Chest
  • Cheeks and chin
  • Calves and ankles

The ASPS says that liposuction should be performed on patients who have fat deposits despite exercising regularly. The ASPS states that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity.
