Orange County Schools is considering a "no zero" policy for testing students. Other school systems have adopted this idea. The lowest possible grade you could earn would be a fifty, certainly putting the student closer to a passing grade than starting at Zero. A principal says parents appreciate the policy because it "helps" students. Some parents say it's better for their children's self esteem. Seriously? There ARE many hard life lessons we should protect children from, BUT, WKMG Local 6 doesn't believe failing grades make that list. Students need to learn how to study and how to prepare, and ultimately how to take responsibility for their successes and their failures. Let's keep our conversations going.
