CLICK ORLANDO DOT COM. The Lake County School board is considering asking parents to pay for their student's bus ride to school. This move comes on the heels of parents protesting the county cut-back of bus rides for any child within a two mile radius of the school. Parents are concerned because they don't have sidewalks for the children to walk safely to school. Brevard County has a similar plan in place, charging students two dollars a day for a ride, one dollar if the child is from a low-income family. WKMG Local 6 believes charging for the bus ride may make business sense, but it doesn't make common sense. Parents were right to protest their children having to take a potentially dangerous walk to school. School bus service is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Some families don't have cars. Many families have two working parents whose schedules conflict with getting their children to school before the bell. The safety of all children HAS to be the number one consideration. You can't put a price on a child's safety. Let's keep our conversations going. Please email me at Speak Up at Click Orlando Dot Com.
