Several people interviewed in the story said they shop at Walgreens, Walmart, K-Mart, Publix, CVS or Eckerds for medication.Local 6 News found that there is a wide range of prices for the same medications.First, Local 6 News searched for heartburn drug Prilosec at several Central Florida stores.The lowest price for Prilosec was found for $9 at WalMart and the highest prices was $10.99 at Walgreens and CVS, Cooper said."From store to store, you can save anywhere from 30 cents to $2," according to the report.Next, Tylenol PM was found at a low price of $7 at Walgreens to a high of $11.99 at CVS -- A $5 difference. Claritin was also found for a low price of $8.93 at Wal-Mart compared to a high of $9.99 at Walgreens and CVS.Aleve was for sale for a low price of $6.96 at WalMart compared to a high of $8.99 at CVS. Target came in second for the cheapest Aleve price.Cooper also reported that Pepcid Complete sold for a low of $12.49 at WalMart compared to a high of $16.99 at CVS -- a difference of more than $4.The product Metamucil was found for a low price of $9.84 at WalMart and Target.A final receipt from each store for seven of the same products showed WalMart had the cheapest total. CVS was the most expensive total of the seven products -- almost $7 more than WalMart.All stores sell generic brands of most of the products on the Local 6 list and that's where consumers will find the greatest savings, according to the report.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
