A man in Eustis, Fla., is accused of creating phony $5 bills on a computer and then using them to pay for fast food at a McDonald's restaurant in Mount Dora, Fla., according to a police news release.
Officers with the Mount Dora police responded to a call of some possible counterfeit money at a McDonald's restaurant in a Wal-Mart located at 17030 U.S. Highway 441.
Store employees were closing out the daily receipts when someone noticed a $5 bill that did not look right, according to the report.
The store manger, Danielle English, suspected the money to be counterfeit and called the police.
As police talked to the store employees, officers learned that one of the worker's relatives came into the store and bought $30 worth of food and paid with six $5 bills.
The report said she also recalled that while visiting a friend at the beginning of the month, she noticed her friend’s cousin, Robert Bariteua, making counterfeit money on his home computer.
Detectives responded to Bariteua's home in Eustis, where they recovered a home computer, scanner, printer, program disc and printer paper, according to the report.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Bariteua for uttering forged bills or notes.
Detectives are working with the Secret Service to investigate any additional charges, the report said.
