MEXICO CITY -- You won't be mixing up any margaritas from this bottle of tequila.
Distiller
Tequila Ley said it has sold the world's most expensive tequila. It's a gold and platinum bottle of Tequila Ley that went for $225,000.
The company isn't disclosing the name of the buyer, but a statement from Tequila Ley said it went to a collector of fine wines and spirits.
Tequila Ley CEO Fernando Altamirano said he is applying to the Guinness Book of Records claiming he has sold the most expensive bottle of liquor ever, but the book has to ratify the claim.
"Since we started out, we began with the idea of making the finest, most expensive bottle of tequila in the world," Altamirano said.
The bottle is filled with Pasion Azteca tequila, made from pure sap of the blue agave plant that has been fermented, distilled, and aged for six years.
Agave is a blue cactus-like plant native to Western Mexico.
