1 arrested in police standoff

Man wanted for overnight home invasion, carjacking

ORLANDO, Fla. – One man wanted for an overnight home invasion and carjacking has surrendered in a standoff situation after authorities fired tear gas on Thursday.

The standoff began around 11 a.m. Thursday at a home on Messina Avenue near Willie Mays Parkway and King Cole Boulevard.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the man is also wanted in attempted homicide from earlier this year.

The stolen vehicle was noticed in the driveway of the home, and the man  barricaded himself inside when deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant.

Deputies said there were no hostages, but there could have been weapons in the home.

No names have been released.
