1 person injured in overnight fire

Owner's dog was lost in fire

LAKE PANASOFFKEE, Fla. – A Lake Panasoffkee man was injured escaping from his burning home on County Road 482C1.

Sumter County Fire and Emergency Medical Services said they responded to a residential fire 4:44 a.m. Friday to find the home owner lying in the front yard of the burning single wide mobile home. The man had received burns while escaping the home.

He indicating to crews that his dog was still inside. Crews entered the burning home and located the dog, but it had died due to injuries from the fire.

Crews were able to quickly get the fire under control.

The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The home was a total loss and the blaze is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
