1-year-old Orlando girl killed by blunt force trauma, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 1-year-old died last month from blunt force trauma to her head and neck, but no arrests have been made in the case, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Nyana Vargas was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital on September 6 and died the next day, deputies said.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, detectives were called after the 19-month-old girl was unresponsive and taken to the hospital by a baby sitter who lives on Edgefield Lane.  The girl lived with her mother, who was at work when her child was brought to the hospital, officials said.

The child was placed on life support and died on September 7, said deputies, adding that the medical examiner ruled that Nyana died from blunt force trauma.

No arrests have been made and deputies said no other details will be released at this time.
