1-year-old dead after being run over in Apopka, FHP says

APOPKA, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol responded to an accident at 11:20 a.m. Monday morning involving a 1-year-old child and a car in Apopka.

The grandmother was the one who found the baby in the driveway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Neighbors tell News 6, that's when they heard screaming.

"The grandma was standing over there holding him screaming," said a tearful Nicole Atwell. "She was just crying and screaming, 'Please someone help.'"

Atwell couldn't hold back the tears when describing the scene.

"I mean it's sad with any kid even though we didn't know them," she said. "I mean, it's a child you know, what I mean, and for the parents to do... I can't imagine."

The father of the child, Jorge Carrillo, 27, was rotating cars in and out of the driveway.

The dad pulled out into the road, and as he was pulling back in he ran over his son, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

"It was a pickup truck so they are raised from on the ground," said Highway Patrol  spokesperson Steve Montiero.

"You are dealing with a 1-year-old child, so obviously he was little bit smaller. That parent did not see the child."

Authorities tell News 6 the child’s name is Isaak Rodea, and he was still holding his sippy cup when he was run over.

Isaak was alive just after the accident happened, but later died at the hospital.

The incident happened near Ulysses Drive and Thor Avenue.

“There will not be any criminal charges against the father, but traffic charges are pending," Montiero said.
