Authorities in Orlando are investigating a wooden cross found burning on a family's property in an apparent message of hate, according to Local 6 News.
Investigators said the two pieces of wood doused in flammable liquid and ignited with a piece of cardboard were found at a home located near Lake Nona Thursday night.
A homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was shocked to find the burning cross in her yard.
"It was a shock -- instant shock," she said. "I've lived all over the country -- different states -- and I've never had this kind of thing happen to me before. I just; I think (it's) a group of worthless people. They are envious; they are hateful."
The family said they have been targeted before.
"Our mailboxes have been destroyed," she said. "(There were) beer bottles. They overturn vehicles; they race up and down the street late at night."
The homeowner said the burning cross crosses the line, Local 6's Mike DeForest said.
"You don't burn a cross," she said. "It is only connected to one thing. Everybody knows that. It is really devastating. It is horrible."
The family said all of their neighbors in the Lake Mary Jane area -- regardless of race -- have been targeted by vandals.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
