Investigators in Flagler County, Fla., are looking into accusations that a boy under the age of 7 sexually abused a classmate with a stick at an elementary school.
The young girl, who attends Old Kings Elementary in Palm Coast, told her mother that she was assaulted inside a bathroom on school property, Local 6 News reported.
"She says the boy pulled down her pants and sexually abused her with his fingers and a stick he took from the playground," Local 6's Jessica D'Onofrio said. "This case is particularly disturbing because the children involved are so young."
The girl's mother went to the school's principal after an emergency room doctor at Florida Hospital confirmed that there were signs of sexual assault, the report said.
"I think they have downplayed everything," the woman said. "They have acted like it really is not a big deal."
The schools' principal, Denise Haymes, said the Flagler County Sheriff's Office is involved and she can't comment on an ongoing investigation.
Haymes could not confirm is the boy was still in school but said they plan to keep both children apart.
"I feel that if he was capable of doing this to my daughter, then he is capable of doing this to any child," the alleged victim's mother said.
Haymes said the children at the school are safe, according to the report.
