SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. -- A convicted bank robber apparently missed prison so much that he robbed a Central Florida bank to go back "home," according to police officials.
Danny Villegas, 44, walked into Kennedy Space Center Federal Credit Union in South Daytona Monday and announced that he was robbing the bank, according to police.
Villegas then told bank employees to call 911 while he sat on a couch and waited for police to arrest him, police said.
"This is very strange. Very weird. Very weird," South Daytona Police Officer Ron Wright said.
Police said Villegas is not insane.
Villegas served five years in prison after robbing a bank 10 years ago, according to police.
Police said he recently traveled to Florida when he ran out of money as a roofer in Texas.
Villegas told police that he preferred serving time in prison to finding a new job.
It's not known if Villegas will get his wish and return to federal prison, police said.
