MERRITT ISLAND -- A 24-year-old manager of a Merritt Island Burger King restaurant was shot in the face because she apparently saw the face of a robbery suspect before he fled with $3,000, according to a Local 6 News report.
"(The) shameless robber, worried that his victim saw his face, shot her in the face," Local 6's Todd Jurkowski said.
Investigators said the woman manager and other Burger King employees were outside the business located at 380 E. Merritt Island Causeway at 5:30 a.m. Sunday when they were confronted by the culprit and ordered into a store office.
During the robbery, the mother of three was shot after she told the robber she had not seen his face, the woman's father said.
"He shot her for no apparent reason," Agent Fernando Dominicis said.
Neither parents nor police would reveal the woman's name for fear her attacker might try to harm her in the hospital.
Dominicis said the bullet entered her right cheek and lodged in her nasal cavity. The woman remained in critical condition early Monday.
Agents said witnesses described the robber as in his early to mid-30s, standing about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He is black and was last seen wearing a white or long-sleeved hooded Wachovia sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.
Police hope surveillance video from a nearby bank and a composite sketch will help locate the shooter.
Anyone with information concerning this crime is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
