PALM BAY, Fla. -- A 32-year-old Palm Bay man was jailed Monday after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said he ignored requests to turn down music booming from his car and struggled with an officer, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
Winston Staddad, of the 1200 block of Palm Bay Road, was charged with resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer after the incident at the Mobil gas station on the 4500 block of New Haven Avenue in Melbourne.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a trooper was pumping gas when Staddad pulled up next to the patrol car in his four-door Saturn playing loud music. The trooper watched as Staddad got out of his car and left with the music still loudly playing, reports show.
The trooper asked Staddad several times to turn down his music but Staddad laughed instead, according to police reports.
Staddad then began to walk away despite a warning that he would receive a ticket, reports show. The trooper then grabbed Staddad’s arm, and Staddad responded by pushing the officer in the chest, reports show.
The trooper used chemical spray to subdue Staddad, according to the highway patrol.
Staddad, who later apologized to the trooper, was taken to the Brevard County Complex in Sharpes where he was expected to have a bond hearing Tuesday.
