Police Believe Fights Being Used For Bragging Rights
RELATED: Girl Fight Investigated
According to authorities, a Volusia County teenage girl was ambushed in a violent attack, and Daytona Beach police said they believe the fight happened just so it could be posted online at MySpace.com. "Police say that they're seeing an alarming trend -- people are intentionally fighting and then posting these fights, after they videotape them, on their MySpace accounts and using them as bragging rights," Local 6 News reporter Tarik Minor said. Ty'Quita Hamilton was one of the victims in the brawl and told Local 6 News that the fight was set up by the aggressors, who made sure the camera focused solely on the beating. "Kids (are) ignorant these days. (They think it's) just something to laugh about, something to joke about," Hamilton said. "It ain't funny. It's stupid." The fight started between another girl and Hamilton but escalated to about a half-dozen people shortly after it began. Police said the fight could have been deadly because a person is seen on the video throwing a cinder block at someone else. Investigators told Local 6 News that they are reviewing the video and will pursue criminal charges. Local 6 News reported that three or four men will be charged with a felony in connection with the fight. All of the victims are juveniles. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
