ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Several Central Florida parents are upset with a prepaid cell phone company that allows users to view what some people consider "soft-pornographic" images without even purchasing them.
Once activated, the Boost Mobile prepaid phone, which can be purchased for $40, shows the images of scantily clad women, and for $1.99, a picture can be purchased as wallpaper for the phone.
Local 6 News talked to a mother of a 14-year-old boy who said she's angry that these pictures are so easily accessible to her son.
"There is no 18-or-plus disclaimer. There is nothing in the paperwork on the phone which can tell the parent that this might even be possible on the phone," Michelle Marsh said.
"There's a warning on everything else, so they should let people know there's something on the phone before they give it to their children," another concerned parent, Tracey Marma, said.
The phone company released a statement saying, "Boost Mobile tries to ensure that all of its content complies with the guidelines of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association. These guidelines do not cover any content that's available on public networks."
Boost Mobile is not providing the content but access to a separate site that can be accessed on the Web by using their phone.
On most personal cell phones, you have to purchase the pictures before you can view them, Local 6 News reported.
