POSTED: Monday, February 12, 2007
UPDATED: 10:00 am EST February 13, 2007

A standoff in a Seminole County, Fla., prompted the evacuation of several neighborhood homes Monday night, according to police.

Investigators said officers were attempting to take Steven Klimkowski into custody for felony probation for driving with a suspended or revoked license when he barricaded himself inside a home located at 1042 Selma Road and Longdale Avenue in Longwood.

A Longwood police officer said Klimkowski dropped a gun he had in his hand and then rushed toward him.

The officer discharged his Taser gun but it was not effective in stopping Klimkowki, who then retreated back into his home, the report said.

After about a two-hour standoff, Klimkowski surrendered to police, according to Local 6 News.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Klimkowki was transported to the Seminole County Jail and charged with aggravated assault and breach of peace.
