TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- A man was arrested Tuesday morning after Titusville police said he returned to a house he had just robbed to retrieve his cell phone that he left behind.
Garrett Nichols, 18, of Titusville, was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of armed burglary and two counts of grand theft.
Titusville police received a 911 call shortly after 10 a.m. from a person on Hickory Hills Boulevard, who said that a burglary had just occurred next door.
Nichols fled the house after being confronted by another neighbor, according to police.
Police officers said they discovered Nichols' cell phone at the house and arrested him about 30 minutes later when he returned to retrieve his cell phone.
Police said they were already looking for Nichols after receiving a tip a day earlier that he had burglarized another home in Titusville.
Nichols admitted to burglarizing four homes in Titusville over the past several days, including one in which two handguns were stolen on Lundy Drive on Monday, according to the police report.
Detectives said they recovered one of the handguns after searching Nichols' motel room at Riverside Inn in Titusville.
Police said a second arrest is likely in the burglary involving the handguns in Monday's incident.
