ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A man set fire to his own home on Monday before heading for breakfast at a nearby Denny's, according to authorities.
John Robb Jr. confessed to setting three fires inside his Briar Drive house, which is located near Universal Studios, before leaving, fire officials told Local 6 News.
Robb, a disabled man, lives alone and may have recently received some bad news from his doctor, according to a neighbor.
"I'm just shocked. I would never think anything like that of him. I talked with him yesterday, probably (for) an hour in his yard, and he was telling me that he was concerned about the doctors telling him that he only maybe had 90 days left (to live)," neighbor Carl Rooks said.
"I wish no evil on him. He is my stepfather. I never lived under his roof, but my younger brothers and sisters did. My mother loved him, and they were together 30 years," stepdaughter Monica Hicks said.
Hicks said she was at the house trying to locate her mother's ashes, which she did not find.
Robb lost wife about four years ago, and neighbors told Local 6 News that he's not been the same since then.
No one was injured in the blaze.
It's not known what charges Robb faces.
