DELTONA, Fla. -- A Central Florida hotel maintenance manager was arrested on Thursday after police said he raped an 11-year-old girl in a room at the hotel in which he works.
Martin Narvaez, 33, was charged with false imprisonment, child abuse and sexual battery after the alleged attack at the Best Western in Deltona.
According to Volusia County authorities, the 11-year-old girl was walking down a street near the hotel about 3 p.m. when Narvaez approached her, told her she was cute, asked her if she had a boyfriend and took her by the wrist to a hotel room, where he sexually assaulted her.
Sheriff's deputies said that the girl did not resist because she was afraid for her life.
Because of the nature of his job, Narvaez did have card keys to access hotel rooms, according to the hotel manager.
"It's so sad that things happen. Martin is such a nice guy. He works so hard for me here," hotel Manager Jack Chang said.
Narvaez worked at Best Western for the past year, Chang said.
A background check was completed when Narvaez was hired, according to Chang, who said it showed no history of criminal activity.
Authorities said they are reviewing hotel surveillance video.
