Police Seek Couple In Trenton Duckett Case

Witness Says Abducted Boy's Mother Was With Couple

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2007
UPDATED: 5:13 pm EDT March 28, 2007

Authorities searching for Trenton Duckett said Wednesday that they are now looking for a couple who a witness said met with the boy's mother at a construction site south of Leesburg about a week before he disappeared.

A witness told investigators that Melinda Duckett met a couple at a construction site on U.S. Highway 27, south of Leesburg, in August. The area is described as a housing development in the early stages of construction at that time.

The couple was described as Hispanic or Asian, in their late 50s to early 60s and well-dressed. The couple was driving a 2002-2006 silver- or gold-looking Cadillac Escalade SUV, with a possible license tag from New York, investigators said.

Melinda and the couple were seen about one week to 10 days prior to the alleged abduction, according to investigators.

During the meeting, the woman identified as Melinda Duckett was seen with a small child, and a black- or blue-colored bag was on the hood of Melinda's vehicle, investigators said.

The housing development borders the southern most area of Plantation and is a quarter-mile north of the northbound entrance for the Florida Turnpike.

Trenton was reported missing on Aug. 27. His mother committed suicide about two weeks later.

Investigators are requesting anyone who may have seen the couple, the SUV or Melinda Duckett in that area to contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office or Leesburg Police Department.
